Shabbat: A Day of Rest

I have done as little as possible today!  That's just how I wanted the day to go.

Yesterday we took the morning to visit the capitol building in Phoenix.  The original building is now a museum.  There was also a statue we wanted to see in a memorial park across the street from the capitol.

Then we had a lovely, easy drive from Phoenix to Tucson.  We chose to go to the Arizona Historical Society Museum on the campus of University of Arizona Tucson.  It was very easy to spend three hours in there!  Mark was especially interested in the Geronimo exhibit.  We also took the time to go to the old railroad depot.  The museum was closed when we arrived, but we came to see a statue outside of Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp.  It was wonderful!  Mark is in heaven on this trip.

Then we checked into the resort just about 15 minutes north of Tucson called Mira Vista.  We planned to stay here because it's a clothing optional resort and because it was where we were going to be on Shabbat. This way we could sleep in and relax in the pool all day.  We packed our own breakfast and lunch, both of which we ate in the room.  Tonight we will go to the restaurant for dinner near the end of Shabbat.  In fact, we ate dinner in there yesterday before Shabbat.  The foot was great, but the choices for vegetarians were slim.  We could choose between the catch of the day or the pasta of the day. We chose the catch because it was salmon.  According to the menu, it came with seasonal vegetables and a starch.  Turned out to be two starched in our opinion.  It was an extremely thick and cheesy pasta of a small, tubular shape and sweet potatoes.  Weird.  Both were delicious but very rich and heavy. I'm sure the calories in those two side dishes were astronomical.  Tonight when we go back, I'm hoping the catch is something different and so are the sides.  We shall see.

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY!  Mark is VERY EXCITED.  AT 2 p.m. tomorrow, he will be watching a re-enactment of the Shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone.  For Mark, this is IT!

Original capitol building in Phoenix.  The tower behind is now the building used.

This is the statue in the memorial park in honor of Arizona lawmen.

Mark liked it because he thought it looked like Wyatt Earp, eve though it is just supposed to be an anonymous lawman.

Pretending to be a Native American.

Always a cowboy!

This gun cabinet held some owned by Wyatt Earp and some by Geronimo.

Fistful of Dollars?

This is where they shot Frank Stillwell.
