Sonora, CA

We took six hours to drive two and a half hours yesterday.  Friday rush hour was complicated with a big traffic accident.  We left at 4 for Sonora, which should have gotten us to the hotel at 6:30, perfect for dinner before sundown.  Ah, well...best laid plans.  We arrived at 10 p.m., but that included a small snack/bathroom break just past Livermore and dinner in Oakdale on the way.  Crazy.

This morning we will eat the breakfast that we packed in a cooler in our room.  We have also packed lunches for today and tomorrow on our tours so we don't have to worry about finding somewhere to eat, and my calories will also be healthier.  Tonight we should be the Walker River Lodge in Bridgeport with dinner in an Italian restaurant nearby.

It should be a two and a half hour drive to the ghost town of Bodie, once a thriving gold mine town of 10,000 people.  After we spend a few hours there, we will drive down to Mono Lake, which sounds a lot like the Dead Sea in Israel.  It's low, has no outlet, and has a high salt and mineral content.  There should be spectacular pictures there.

It's going to be a great day.  Meanwhile here are some pictures of Evey at her house yesterday before we left.

She is "moating" her lemon tree.

Apparently young lemon trees need a lot of water but not directly on the trunk.

She also has a pomegranate tree, which she hopes will ripen up nicely.

That's a Bird of Paradise plant next to her. We also have one in our yard.

Looking at the patio and slider to the dining area from the backyard.

There are several pretty rose bushes in her yard.

A lovely day at Evey's house.
