Yom Kippur at DVC's VGF

Really, if you live 25 miles from your synagogue and you have to fast for nearly 28 hours anyway, it's SO much better to do it at WDW and especially GREAT at the Villas at the Grand Floridian.  We have done this at the All Star Sports the last two years, but using our DVC points at the VGF was even better.

For dinner, we made a delicious one pot meal of chicken, potatoes, and fresh string beans.  Mark also made matzo ball soup and another fabulous low-carb honey cake. Of course, there was also raisin challah.  It was a great dinner, and we stuffed ourselves silly before heading out to shul.

I checked the time and mileage.  From the parking lot at VGF to shul was 8 miles in about 20 minutes.  So much better than 25 miles in 45-60 minutes!  In the middle of the day we went back and had a whole 90 minutes to lay down for a nap.  If we had to drive home, we would have had only about 30 minutes before heading straight back, not even worth the drive for that.

After services, we ate left overs as well as hummus and other things for break-the-fast.  Around 9:15 we walked over to the main lobby and listened to the band play.  When they finished, we walked out to the end of the dock and watched the MK fireworks.  We could even hear the music being piped out of the deck at Narcoossee's. It was a good view!

This morning we had a great breakfast in the apartment, too.  After we checked out, we walked around the resort for awhile and even took the boat to the Polynesian Resort and to Magic Kingdom and back to VGF, just for fun.  We had lunch at the Gasparilla Island, the counter service restaurant.  It was a lovely time.

This afternoon we went to the Democrat Club's meeting because they advertised our Congressman Ala Grayson was coming to speak.  He was a no-show due to some family issues with his kids.  Oh, well... We listened to the other candidates anyway.  We wore our NARFE gear, so Mark had a chance to talk to Grayson's designee instead about NARFE issues.  It was an interesting meeting anyway.

Now it's time to watch the Orioles beat the Tigers.  They WON!! They advance to the AL championship game against either Kansas City or the Angels.

Here are some pictures of this weekend.

Mark is making us some coffee Sunday morning.

The bungaows at the Poly are coming along nicely. You can see the plunge pool hanging below the deck on the left.
