Walt's Chili

Walt Disney LOVED chili.  He loved it so much that he carried cans of chili around with him to eat for lunch, even in restaurants sometimes.  He had his own personal chili recipe that was served in the Commissary at the Disney Studios in California.  To this day, a pot of that chili is always on the stove ready to serve customers.

The recipe is out there on the internet, so yesterday Mark made it for us for lunch.  Barb and Al came over to join us.  It was delicious, but we all agreed it was very bland!  The recipe said there were some optional things you could add in, but in order to stay as authentic as possible, we opted not to add any in . So the thing was kind of tasteless.  LOL!  We all ate two bowls of it anyway.  Mark, Barb, and Al added in some garlic hot sauce. I added a LOT of extra chili powder, but I could still have put in more.  Next time, Mark is going to make it with ALL of the extra add-ins right away.  It definitely needed more taste.

We had the chili with some of Mark's homemade corn bread, which he has made many times and is always outstanding.  Then for dinner we had more of the chili on top of whole wheat pasta.  Also delicious, BUT we both paid for it with VERY gassy tummies the rest of the night, all night, and even this morning.  I just told Mark that we MUST NEVER eat two bowls of chili for lunch AND chili on pasta for dinner in the SAME DAY EVER AGAIN!!!!  LOL!

Let's just say the recipe was heavy on beans.

Barb and Al very generously brought us a cool Mickey head shaped bowl for a Hanukkah present.  It's so cool.  We don't have one, so it will get used many, many times.

Today we are heading over to Epcot to catch a few more of the Holiday Around the World shows.  Then at 4:30 we are meeting our Solivita Disney Fan Club at Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness for dinner.  After dinner we are all taking the Holiday Hayride around Fort Wilderness to view all the decorations that people in the campgrounds put up.  Apparently, every year it's big deal for the campers to put up lots of holiday lights.  I'm looking forward to it, and it won't even be too cold tonight.

We gave Barb and Al this set of Mickey and friends Christmas mugs.  They were a gift to us from someone up in MD who does NOT read this blog.  DO NOT MENTION this to anyone in MD if you are reading this.  LOL!  He got them at a yard sale because he knows we are big Disney fans.  They are a unique and out-of-date design, so Barb and Al, who are BIG collectors of Disney stuff, appreciated them.  We knew they would appreciate them far more than we do.  Have fun with them, Barb and Al!  We are glad they have a new, happy, Disney home.
