Road Trip, day one, Tallahassee

Today went exactly as planned.  Wow!  It was a great start to this gigantic trip.

We arrived in Tallahassee around 2 p.m.  We went straight to downtown and parked near the state Capitol buildings.  First we stopped in the Leon County Welcome Center and picked up some brochures.  Next we went into the high rise capitol building....in one door and out the other.  The original building, restored to its 1902 appearance, closed a half hour earlier than the high rise, so it made sense to visit it first.  It is right in front of the high rise, so it's a lovely stroll across a memorial sidewalk.  The old building is beautiful and houses a museum.  We did not realize there was so much to see there.  There are many videos that we would love to have seen, but we didn't have the time.  We have decided that we simply must come back in the future.  The high rise capitol building has a great viewing area on the top floor.  You can see the Gulf of Mexico from up there!

We ate lunch at Subway and dinner at Denny's as planned.  I have tracked my calories and will come in exactly on budget today at 1520.  We walked 3 1/2 miles today, and our legs felt it!

This morning I weighed the same as yesterday, so I was pleased.  I am still hoping for a significant loss over the duration of this trip.

Tomorrow there will be no pictures to add since we are just doing a 365 mile drive to a motel in Slidell, Louisiana, near New Orleans.

Here are some pictures from today.

Only four states have high rise capitol buildings: Florida, Nebraska, Louisiana, and North Dakota.

The Florida Supreme Court is behind Mark.

Two large murals greet you when you enter the high rise.
